Class 28 – Jesus Christ and the Restoration

Suggested Pre-Class Readings

Jesus Christ has appeared multiple times in this dispensation. Read about these visions and ponder on what they mean to you in your life.

Jesus Christ speaks throughout the Doctrine and Covenants. Read the following passages, and mark specific phrases that stand out to you.

Revelations regarding Jesus Christ continue throughout the Doctrine and Covenants and into the modern day. One of the most significant statements in recent years about Jesus Christ is “The Living Christ,” which was signed by all members of the First Presidency and Quorum of the Twelve Apostles. Regarding this statement, Elder Robert D. Hales of the Quorum of the Twelve taught, “‘The Family: A Proclamation to the World’ was given long before we experienced the challenges now facing the family. ‘The Living Christ: The Testimony of the Apostles’ was prepared in advance of when we will need it most.”

Take a few minutes right now to read and ponder “The Living Christ.”

Which phrases stood out most to you from your reading of The Living Christ? Why did you find these to be significant?

Optional Post-Class Readings

Chad Webb, who is the administrator in charge of Seminaries and Institutes for the Church wrote a powerful article about focusing our teaching and learning on Jesus Christ. Although it was written for seminary and institute teachers, I think it is helpful for all gospel teachers. As your schedule permits, I encourage you to read Brother Webb’s article, “We Talk of Christ, We Rejoice in Christ.”
