Scripture Citation Index

If you’ve ever wondered, “What have church leaders taught about this verse?” then the Scripture Citation Index is for you. It allows to look up a specific verse and see what has been said about that verse in General Conference. It also allows you to look up a specific speaker (e.g., Elder David A. Bednar) and see which verses this leader has used throughout her/his talks.

The Scripture Citation Index is available as a website, on iPad/iPhones and Android devices.

Here’s a basic video overview of how the site works.

The video creator used the example of 2 Nephi 25:23, but didn’t really show a specific example of how a teaching from a church leader could provide clarification. If you go to scriptures.byu.edu site for 2 Nephi 25:23, and click on October 2019 talk by Elder Soares, you’ll see some helpful insight on this verse:

Note how Elder Soares explains that the phrase “after all we can do” doesn’t mean Christ’s grace doesn’t just come to us _after_ all we can do…we can constantly be receiving his grace.

This tool is also great for doing in-depth research. Here are a couple of articles I’ve written using the Scripture Citation Index (only for those who want to dive deep):

“Teachings of Church Leaders on Christ’s Final Seven Statements,” by John Hilton III, Megan Cutler, and Emily K. Hyde.

“Prophetic Use of the Pauline Epistles, 1970–2013,” by Brad Farnsworth, John Hilton III, Jaclyn Nielson, and Jonathan Ogden.

Don’t wait any longer! Explore the Scripture Citation Index is available on its website, or on your iPad/iPhone or Android device.
