Isaiah 50:10–11 says, “Who is among you that feareth the Lord, that obeyeth the voice of his servant, that walketh in darkness, and hath no light? … Behold, all ye that kindle a fire, that compass yourselves about with sparks: walk in the light of your fire, and in the sparks that ye have kindled. This shall ye have of mine hand; ye shall lie down in sorrow.”
As I read these verses, I imagine myself in a dark cave. I have two choices—I can use my flint and steel kit from my cub scout days to create my own light. But the tiny sparks I can generate won’t do much. Alternatively, the Lord’s prophets have giant flashlights and they are pointing the way.
Following the Lord’s prophets = light and peace.
Do my own thing without prophet guidance = sorrow.
I understand that sometimes life feels complicated, but the way Isaiah presents it here, it seems like a pretty easy choice!
I’m grateful for living prophets and the guidance they give!
