The Gospel of John Movie
The Gospel of John is an incredible movie about Jesus Christ. You can learn more about it on this page; here are the video links to John chapters 14-16 and the link to John 17. I think it’s a great activity to read the actual chapter, think about how you would film it, and then watch the movie to see what is similar or different to the way you imagined things.

***”You Do You” is not a Quote from Jesus***
One challenge we face in life is teaching the truth in love. At the Last Supper, Jesus taught, “I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me” (John 14:6). We live in a world that says “You do you” and “Find your own truth.” But Jesus Christ is the Truth. He doesn’t want us to find our own truth, he wants us to find HIM.
How do we teach this without being offensive? My friend Rob Eaton led a great discussion with Hank Smith and John Bytheway on this verse (and topic) on the Follow Him podcast. Here’s a link to the video version at the time code where this discussion starts.
It would make for a great class or family discussion to watch a few minutes from this clip and discuss (or possibly roleplay) how to teach the truth that Jesus is the only way in a way that will not be offensive.
***Unity***
If you’re teaching people with lots of energy have learner in pairs do a three-legged race (or you could have threesomes do a four-legged race). If you don’t have enough learners to race each other, you could have give the pair or threesome multiple chances to beat their time. Once all the wiggles are out, ask, “What is the secret to going faster in a 3 (or 4) legged race?” It’s unity!
John 17 teaches powerful lessons, both about unity with other Christians, as well as unity with God and Christ. Help learners uncover these lessons and set goals to become more unified–both with Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ, as well as our fellow believers.
