We live in the time foretold by the Lord when “peace shall be taken from the earth” (D&C 1:35). Today’s headlines trumpet that worry, stress, anxiety, and depression are all on the rise. To varying degrees, all of us and our loved ones will experience these challenges.
These difficulties may be common, but they are not new. The scriptures speak of those who were “depressed,” “greatly afraid,” “worried,” and experiencing “great anxiety.” While some of us may need to seek professional help, all of us can find comfort through Jesus Christ, “the founder of peace” (Mosiah 15:18).
Christ wants us to feel happiness, hope, and joy—he has promised that the covenant of his peace shall not be removed (see 3 Nephi 22:10). The Founder of Our Peace offers forty Christ-centered patterns—such as “mental time travel,” “examine your expectations,” and “pray like a prophet”—we can employ to combat the challenges of mental distress and invite greater peace into our lives today.
New understandings of powerful scriptural phrases and stories will deepen our hope in the Savior and provide practical ideas to help us and those we love walk the path of peace.

Praise for The Founder of our Peace
“I love this book! Never has the need for personal peace been greater than it is right now, and John Hilton meets that need head-on. John is honest about problematic realities that exist in Latter-day Saint culture and offers specific suggestions for dealing with them. He identifies patterns within the scriptures we can use to reduce worry and anxiety. Most of all, he points us to the Savior—the true source of all enduring peace.”
Brad Wilcox, BYU professor of Ancient Scripture and best-selling author of The Continuous Atonement

“We all experience failing hearts when we are discouraged or depressed, stressed, and worn down with worry. That is why this book is so important—it provides us with a road map for our daily journeys to help us more fully experi-ence the kind of peace Jesus promised. As one who has personally struggled with the very kinds of difficulties Dr. Hilton describes, I can attest that this engaging book is both helpful and hopeful, practical and profound.”
